Medicare AEP · Oct 15 – Dec 7
Annual Enrollment Period is your one chance per year to switch Medicare Advantage, Part D, or Medigap plans without penalty. Spend 15 minutes with a licensed local agent, save $400–$1,200/year — at no cost to you.
Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs October 15 through December 7 every year. It's the window when you can change your Medicare Advantage plan, switch Part D drug coverage, drop a plan and return to Original Medicare, or pick up a Medigap supplement (with eligibility rules). Plans you choose during AEP take effect January 1.
Why it matters: Medicare plans change every year. Premiums shift, drug formularies get rewritten, doctor networks expand or contract, and copays for services like an MRI or specialist visit can change overnight. The plan that was perfect for you last year may not be the right plan in 2027.
⚠️ Miss the window? Outside AEP, you generally can't change your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan until next October — even if you're paying too much or your prescriptions aren't covered.
We're independent. Triangle Life & Health is an independent insurance agency — we contract with every major Medicare carrier (Aetna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Wellcare, Blue Cross NC, Anthem and more). That means we shop your plan options instead of pitching one company's product.
We're local. Our office is in Raleigh, serving the Triangle area since 2019. We know which providers are in-network for which plans across UNC Health, Duke Health, WakeMed, Atrium, and Rex.
We're free. Medicare agents are paid by the insurance carrier when a plan is selected — never by you. There is no fee, no obligation, and no commitment to enroll.
Only if you choose to. Before recommending any plan, we check that your primary care physician and specialists remain in-network. If they're not, we either find a comparable plan that keeps them in-network or we tell you to stay put.
Nothing. Medicare brokers like Triangle L&H are paid a flat commission by the carrier when a plan is selected — same commission no matter which carrier you choose, which is why we're truly independent. You pay zero.
No. Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) runs three months before through three months after your 65th birthday — that's a separate, more flexible window than AEP. Call us 60-90 days before you turn 65 and we'll help you avoid Part B and Part D late-enrollment penalties.
Yes. Plans change every year. About 1 in 4 of our clients ends up keeping their current plan after our review — that's fine, you get the peace of mind that nothing important changed. The other 3 in 4 typically save somewhere between $400 and $1,200 a year.
Yes. We serve Wake, Durham, Orange, and Johnston Counties with home visits at no cost. If you'd rather meet at our Raleigh office (6512 Six Forks Rd, Suite 503B — opening Summer 2026), or by phone or video, we can do that too.
Medigap plans are also worth reviewing during AEP, particularly if your Part D drug plan is bundled separately. If you're considering a Medigap switch, we'll review your options and explain your guaranteed-issue rights.
Annual Enrollment Period closes December 7. Calendar fills up fast in November — book early.
