What's local about Medicare in Charlotte
Medicare is federal, but your plan choices depend on where you live. Major hospitals in the area include Atrium Health and Novant Health.
Atrium or Novant?
Charlotte care is largely split between two big systems, Atrium Health (including Carolinas Medical Center) and Novant Health (including Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center). Medicare Advantage networks don't always include both, so if you have doctors you want to keep, that's the first thing we check.
Living near the South Carolina line
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are based on the county where you live, not where you work or see doctors. If you live in York or Lancaster County, SC, your plan options are South Carolina plans. We're licensed in both North and South Carolina.
Moving to Charlotte?
Many Charlotte-area clients relocated here. If you have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan from another state, you'll get a Special Enrollment Period to pick a new one. See moving to North Carolina with Medicare.

What CMS has approved for Charlotte-area residents for the 2027 plan year.
Fewer choices in 2027. Some plans offered in Mecklenburg County this year won't return next year. If you have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, check the Annual Notice of Change your plan sent, then compare options during Annual Enrollment, October 15 – December 7.

Medicare Advantage counts exclude Special Needs and employer plans. CMS data may change as contracts are finalized.
Your Medicare options in Mecklenburg County
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
All-in-one plans that usually include drug coverage, use a network and have copays with a yearly in-network out-of-pocket limit (no more than $9,850 in 2027). Plan availability and networks vary by county.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
Helps pay what Original Medicare doesn't, with any doctor or hospital nationwide that accepts Medicare. North Carolina has no Medigap birthday rule, so your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period at 65 is the easiest time to buy.
Part D prescription drug plans
Standalone drug plans for people with Original Medicare. In 2027, out-of-pocket costs for covered drugs are capped at $2,400 and the deductible can be no more than $700.
Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs
If your income and savings are limited, these programs can lower your Part B and drug costs.

Frequently asked questions: Medicare in Charlotte
How do I choose a Medicare Advantage plan in Charlotte?
Start with your doctors, hospitals and prescriptions. In Mecklenburg County, networks differ on which health systems they include, and drug lists differ too. We compare the plans we offer in Mecklenburg County against your list and walk through premiums, copays and the yearly out-of-pocket limit. We do not offer every plan available in your area.
When can I enroll in Medicare in Charlotte?
Your Initial Enrollment Period is the 7 months around your 65th birthday. After that, Annual Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, and people in a Medicare Advantage plan can make one change from January 1 to March 31. Moving, losing employer coverage and some other life events open a Special Enrollment Period.
Does North Carolina have a Medigap birthday rule?
No. Outside your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period or a guaranteed issue right, a new Medigap policy in North Carolina usually requires answering health questions. That makes your first decision at 65 important.
Does it cost anything to use an agent?
No. Medicare Advantage and Part D premiums are the same whether you enroll through us, directly with the insurance company or on Medicare.gov, and Medigap rates are filed with the state. Agents are paid by the insurance company.
Do I have to come to Raleigh to work with you?
No. We help Charlotte-area clients by phone and video, and we can handle enrollment the same way. If you'd like to meet in person, our office is in Raleigh.
